This part is all about Florence, the capital of Tuscany. As a little intro, Florence/Firenze in Italy is supposedly the nucleus of the Italian language, or at least, this is what Fiorentini* say and I can understand why. Florence is all about fine Italian culture, as it is defined by art, luxury, fine wines, excellent food and astonishing architecture. Fyi, it is important to know that also Venetians claim the right to the modern Italian language, but their arguments are heavily debated because Venice as a city was build and ruled by Germans, also known in Italian culture as Tedeschi.
However, in our short visit to Florence we got to experiment the beauty of it as it meets the eye, but because our time was limited, we didn’t get the fully explore the city. For me it was not such a loss, because it was not my first visit in Florence. For your travels in Italy, I would say that Florence is not to be missed, and there are some certain things you must see and look for:
Basilica Santa Maria del Fiore and the Duomo in the central Piazza also known as Piazza del Duomo, Uffizi Galleries, Ponte Vecchio, Piazza delle Signoria, Church San Lorenzo and the Medici Chapels and so on. Also there are many food and clothes, leather markets along the city centre, so definitely take a look. For good food I truly recommend you to get away from the city centre, for as far as you can and other than that, enjoy the tons of great gelato , street music and extra creamy cappuccinos.
On a more personal note, we preferred to visit the streets of Florence, enjoy a good gelato, lay in the sun like crazy in the public squares and play with dogs, because Florence has got plenty. Fun fact: we found a vending machine for Pasta, Risotto and Lasagna. Crazy, right? We wanted to get some just to try, but we didn’t have enough coins with us, so that was that.
